First day at school

Today was our first day at the school. Everyone was sleepy when we arrived because we had to be there by 7:30 in the morning. We got to discuss how they have been, what they did on Sunday, and the things they are having to get used to. It was so nice to decompress. The kids are having a blast, but they do miss their parents... and their siblings (shhh... don’t tell!) This morning the school put on an AMAZING welcome assembly for us! Every grade did something special to teach us more about Guayaquil. Although we didn’t know what they were saying, they danced, sang and acted wonderfully and we picked up most of what was going on. We then had traditional Ecuadorian snacks... delicious!! The tour of the school was so much fun and everyone was so welcoming and helpful. We practiced our cultural show for a little and then it was time to go home. Many of the students said that they really enjoyed the food, but if they didn’t, the host family would fix them something else. Until tomorrow!
Max is much taller than EVERYONE! All of the kids were jumping to high five him.

The students with their hosts.

All of us before the welcome assembly.

Basil, Becky and my host, playing hopscotch during the welcome assembly.

Cece got caught in the bridge of “London bridge is falling down” during the welcome assembly.

The students with their celebrity hats.

Jack was the second last student caught in the bridge making Lil the champion!

  3. There were different kinds of sandwiches, empanadas, different breads, and desserts. They told us the names, but there were so many that I’ve forgotten, or cannot pronounce (or spell) the names correctly. The kids seemed to really enjoy the Ecuadorian meatballs, empanadas, and little sausages in sauce.

  9. Hi Everyone,
1-D loved seeing the pictures of your first couple days in Ecuador. They want to know if you have eaten anything weird and is it hot there? We miss you and SMS is a lot quieter. (Just kidding!)
